Can rabbits give fish oil

The health of any agricultural animal depends largely on the diet, including the maximum amount of all the vitamins and trace elements it needs. Unfortunately, to provide a balanced diet is not always possible, so you have to add special additives to your usual food. When caring for rabbits, one of the important components of such food additives is fish oil, which will be equally useful at any stage of development of eared fish. Let's find out what it is for, how, when and how much it can be used.

Can rabbits give fish oil

Among all the vitamin-mineral supplements for rabbits, fish oil is especially valuable. This product contains purified sea fish fats (mackerel, salmon, tuna, trout, and some other species), which are very rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (important for the body Omega-6 and Omega-3), as well as vitamins A, D and E . In addition, along with fish oil, phosphorus, iodine, sulfur and bromine enter the body of animals, and thanks to the rapid absorption of the product, all of them are delivered in almost full quantity.

Important! Such a common problem, like a runny nose in rabbits and tearing of the eyes, are the first signs of vitamin A deficiency, which over time can be supplemented with indigestion.
On this basis, it becomes clear that such fat is not only possible, but also very useful for growing rabbits, because it has a very positive effect on their body:

  • lowers cholesterol and lipoproteins;
  • increases the elasticity of cell membranes;
  • normalizes blood clotting processes, and as a result, prevents blood clots;
  • positive effect on mineral metabolism;
  • accelerates the growth and development of animals;
  • increases the protective functions of the body.
Veterinarians recommend using the product with a shortage of vitamin A, to prevent the development of rickets in young animals, as well as diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in older people and allergic reactions. Fish oil is successfully used in the care of rabbits suffering from chronic infectious diseases and reproductive dysfunction, and in some cases can be an excellent aid in the treatment of eczema, dermatitis, burn lesions and frostbite of the skin (in these cases, various ointments are prepared based on it) . Sometimes fish oil is used even intramuscularly, but such use is possible only under the supervision of a veterinarian and is rarely used in agriculture.
Did you know? The use of fish oil for medical purposes was first assessed by a Norwegian pharmacist Peter Meller, and this happened more than 180 years ago.

How and how much to give rabbits

The rate of the product used depends on the age category of the raised rabbits. At each stage of development, these values will be different:

  • small rabbit give 0.5-1 g of product per 1 individual;
  • pregnant females - 2-3 g;
  • rabbits during lactation - 3-3.5 g each;
  • adults - 1.5 g per head.
Of all the above categories of animals, lactating bunnies need more food (a significant amount of useful substances leave the body along with milk) and weak rabbits who need strength to live and develop normally. With regard to the method of issuance, the optimal solution would be to mix with the "shredded" or wet mash, with the specified dosage. Small rabbits can drip the substance directly into their mouths, but this method is not always suitable, especially if you have a lot of animals and do not have time to mess around with each. In general, with the right approach to the question of feeding, there should be no problems.

Important! Fish oil has a very specific taste and smell, so not all animals willingly eat it. To accustom rabbits to such a useful product, you need to enter it into the diet with minimal doses: for example, with one drop per head.

In rare cases, an upset stomach is possible, but it also passes, it is worth reducing the dosage. Allergic reactions are even less common, and only in animals that have suffered from various allergic manifestations in the past (some components of fish oil cause individual intolerance to the entire product). Of course, with the slightest disturbance to the habitual behavior of animals or their well-being, it is worth reviewing the scheme for issuing all vitamin-mineral supplements, and not just fish oil.

Did you know? There are three types of the product mentioned: brown, yellow and white, with the latter being used for medical purposes. The other two have found their application in the technical industry, although yellow fat can be used in animal husbandry, only after preliminary cleaning.
