As for the characteristics of planting and care, in general, we can say that the Granada potatoes are not too whimsical. Seed potato varieties of Granada, you can begin to select in the fall, it is best suited exactly large tubers with the best bushes.

This will subsequently provide a more abundant and high-quality crop.. Selected tubers are placed in wooden boxes and covered with peat mixed with soil (tubers should sink about two-thirds of the depth of the box).

The resulting seedlings are covered with film and left on a well-lit place with a temperature of about 12 - 14 ° C. Sprouts begin to appear within two to three weeks. From one germinated tuber should take no more than two shoots. Chances are that all subsequent ones will be weak and will give a poor harvest.

Landing is carried out in late April or early May.. By that time, the soil should already be warm to ~ 8 ° C, and all the frosts will be left behind.

Between the rows of potatoes should do the intervals of 70 cm, it will provide your plants with air, light and facilitate you hilling. In the rows between the planting material should be kept at a distance of 25 - 30 cm. Mulching between rows will help in weed control and maintain the correct microclimate.

IMPORTANT! Depending on the type of soil planting material is buried at different depths. If your beds are surrounded by clay soil, then the depth of the digging should not exceed 5 cm. If you plant seedlings in loose soil, then it will be buried to a depth of about 10 - 12 cm.

Agrotechnology is nothing complicated and the subsequent care of the plant will require you to perform several basic procedures:

  • Never forget about hilling, it stimulates the formation of underground shoots, and also protects immature shoots from the still not too warm spring weather.

    Read more about whether hilling is necessary, what technical means it is better to produce, what differs manual and with the help of a motor-block. And also, is it possible to grow a good crop without weeding and hilling.

  • Granada tolerates drought well, and therefore does not need abundant watering. If you live in regions with frequent rainfall, then until flowering your plants will not need manual watering. In the southern areas, watering should be done every 10 days.
  • As a top dressing it is best to use bird droppings and a mixture of urea, sulfate and superphosphate. The first fertilizers are introduced into the soil a month after planting.

Diseases and pests

This plant as a whole has an excellent immune system, which protects it from: potato cancer, scab and golden nematode, phytophthora, and also prevents the leaves from curling and rotting of tubers.

However, Granada has a weak protection against fusarium wilt, which has the unpleasant property of rapidly spreading. With the defeat of this disease, the leaves begin to acquire an unhealthy light color, and the stems on the contrary grow brown. After a few days, the whole plant begins to fade. In the fight against this scourge can help:

  • Compliance with the rules of crop rotation;
  • Timely destruction of all infected plants;
  • Pre-treatment of seed tubers with solutions of salts of trace elements boron, manganese and copper;
  • Chemical preparations "Maxim" and "Baktofit" have proven themselves well.
