How to get rid of peroeda chickens

Novice poultry farmers need to familiarize themselves with the possible parasitic problems of their wards.

Knowledge will help protect the bird, increase the productivity and income of your company.

One of the dangerous parasites in chickens is a peroed: what is it and how to fight it, we will discuss in the article today.

What is peroed

The peroed, better known as the chicken louse, is a microscopic, up to three millimeters in length, brownish parasite. Getting on the body of the "host", the insect is kept on it with the help of jaws and paws.

In contrast to the blood-sucking, it feeds on skin particles, down, feathers, and sucker, which is released when the bird combs the skin. The parasite multiplies quickly enough: one female per day lays about ten eggs on the feathers of the chicken.

The common medical name for this problem is mallophagus.

Important! From one sick chicken during the week can get the whole chicken coop.

Causes of disease

Before listing the causes of occurrence, it should be noted that the ideal habitat for the parasite is a temperature of about + 30 ° C and humidity up to 80%.

The main reasons that increase the risk of infection are the following:

  • visiting the territory of the hen house (walking yard) by wild birds;
  • simultaneous taking of dust baths of sick and healthy individuals;
  • the purchase of an infected individual and the definition in the house with healthy;
  • the introduction of parasites on shoes when cleaning and feeding birds to humans;
  • dampness and close space.

Malofagiosis is often confused with alopecia of birds due to poor maintenance and nutrition. Due to the dryness of the air and crampedness, lack of vitamin D or stale air and high humidity, the bird can drop feathers. Perhaps it is with ordinary shedding, though not in such a catastrophic extent as with an illness.

It will also be useful for you to learn what to do in case of such diseases of chickens as alopecia, Newcastle disease, pasteurellosis, colibacteriosis, coccidiosis, diarrhea, worms, and why chickens are falling on their feet.

In the chicken coop the optimum balance of humidity must be observed; it is important for the wards to constantly be able to walk, to see the sun. Food should be bought or prepared taking into account all the substances necessary for development and renewal after molting: minerals and vitamins, proteins and fats.

Did you know? The chicken cholera vaccination method was developed in 1880 by Louis Pasteur, a French scientist.

Symptoms

The presence of the parasite in chicken can be determined by the following features:

  • feather structure at the base is damaged, the core is bare;
  • the bird constantly cleans feathers, pulls out fluff;
  • state of permanent neurosis;
  • lack of appetite;
  • weight loss;
  • the appearance of bald spots;
  • discharge from the eyes, forming a crust on drying;
  • wounds in places of baldness;
  • reduced egg production.

How to get rid

To get rid of peroed, use both folk remedies and veterinary drugs to destroy parasites.

Important! By striking the skin, a bird can aggravate its condition by penetrating an infection into a wound.

Disinfectants

Of the most popular drugs used are the following:

  • "Celandine";
  • "Dana";
  • "Insectol";
  • "Leopard";
  • Beafar;
  • "Stronghold";
  • Front Line;
  • "Arpalit";
  • Combat;
  • Cucaracha;
  • "Sifox".

Processing principle:

  1. The entire feather cover is moistened evenly, paying attention to the places under the wings.
  2. Processing is carried out twice: in the summer with an interval of 9 days, in the winter with an interval of 12 days.
  3. It is necessary to strictly follow the instructions for each drug in order not to harm the feathered pets.
  4. Many of the listed drugs can also process the room of the chicken coop.

Sand ash baths

To cleanse feathers from parasites, birds, including domestic ones, are bathed in dust. Chickens can be supplied with special boxes filled with wood ash and sand in equal parts, for the therapeutic effect a powdered insecticide is added to the dry mix.

These baths are well cleaned down-feather cover and remove excess moisture in the plumage.

Kerosene

Kerosene is also used to process feathers. Since the product in pure form can burn the skin, it is used in a mixture with vinegar and water. Mix recipe: vinegar (9%), water and kerosene in a ratio of 1: 2: ¼.

Herbs

Insect parasites do not like the smell of some plants:

  • chamomile;
  • juniper;
  • wild rosemary;
  • sagebrush;
  • rosemary;
  • tansy.

Dried herbs, in the case of chamomile - with flowers, are scattered over the litter, interspersed with straw or hay.

Poultry Disinsection

While the chickens are undergoing treatment, their home also needs treatment with drugs, and everything that is not susceptible to fire is burned with a blowtorch.

Insecticides used for processing:

  • pyrethrum (10% aqueous suspension);
  • Karbofos (0.5% aqueous solution);
  • Butox (diluted 1 ml to 4 liters of water).

Processing Rules:

  1. During processing, the bird is removed from the chicken, and placed back two days later.
  2. Before the settlement lay a new litter, wash the dishes.

Important! Dichlofos preparations are not recommended for use, because their vapors are too toxic and can be dangerous to the health of birds.

Preventive actions

To protect your hen house from parasites, you should take care of the conditions of the birds:

  • free space, not crowding;
  • regular washing of the entire room, including roosts, dishes;
  • regular replacement of bedding;
  • well-designed ventilation system;
  • heating in winter;
  • humidity control in the room.

In the open-air cages for walking, baths with ashes and sand are put up, and the courtyard itself is protected from visiting wild birds. In the bedding for birds can interweave grass, insect repellent (the names given above).

When buying a bird, carefully examine it for parasites or diseases, before settling to the existing flock. All feathered pets should be regularly examined.

Did you know? Among the many phobias known today, there is another one associated with poultry - alektorofobiya. People suffering from this disease are not only afraid of the chicken, but also its images in magazines and books.

It should be remembered that the health of chickens depends primarily on the conditions of their housing and nutrition. Prevention measures will also reduce the risk of parasites and diseases.

Feedback from network users

Do not spend money on preparations from fleas and other parasites for animals. Before it is never found in wool, its nutrient medium is a feather, therefore it is necessary to influence it with other preparations. I, as a profile, twice a year, treat all birds with Enroksil, perhaps in Russia it or its analogs exist. In any case, go to the wet pharmacy and ask for this tool, in the extreme case, ask for a little at the poultry farm (100 grams will be enough for about 100 chickens for 3-5 years) - it must be there. Due to the size of my birds (I have ostriches), I treat with a solution with the help of "Karcher" - such as washing cars at car washes. It is easier with smokes - usually the solution is diluted in a warm bath (barrel), where the bird is completely dipped and then released in the aviary, and the remaining solution sprayed the chicken coop and the territory of the aviary. In order not to stress the birds during the egg-laying period, such preventive measures (in your case, struggle) should be carried out in early spring, when it is warm outside and in the autumn, when it is still warm outside.

From perojedov hens and in general another bird has a good old means. Buy formic acid in a pharmacy, dilute it with water to about one to three. And process each chicken by hand. Applying formic acid is pretty simple. Gather on a cotton swab and coat it. Recently, small collars for parasites have appeared for birds; they are very comfortable and not expensive. You just have to put it on the chicken and the parasites as if it were unprecedented.
