How will food prices change by summer?

Experts named the whole range of reasons why the main products are becoming more expensive with each week. The first month of the year did not keep up the centuries-old grocery trends in Ukraine: as a rule, later on the pre-New Year tariff increases, food is somewhat cheaper, but in early 2017 the majority of socially important goods continued to rise. “Only pork and lard fell in price by 1%. The cost of beef, poultry and chicken eggs remained the same,” said Oleg Penzin, executive director of the public organization Economic Discussion Club. According to his information, potatoes became the favorite in the price increase, the price of which increased by 16% in January (+84 kopecks per kilogram). In Kiev, this product can be purchased wholesale at a price of 4.2 - 4.5 UAH / kg. Retail price of the product is 6 UAH / kg.

According to the Association of Suppliers of Retail Networks, other vegetables of the borsch set rose in price twice, on average, by 8–9% per month (30–40 kopecks per kilogram). Carrots in wholesale markets are currently selling at 3.2 - 3.8 UAH / kg, cabbage at 3 - 4 UAH / kg, the price of onions and beets is almost the same.

Chairman of the Association of Suppliers of Ukrainian Retail Networks, Alexei Doroshenko, said that we should expect a subsequent rise in price of vegetables by about 5% every month until spring, when early cabbages, carrots and beets will be noticed. Push up the prices will be 2 factors: the price of storage, which directly depends on the cost of energy and a decrease in supplies of high-quality product.
