Martian Potatoes: Chinese Agrarians Want to Grow Potatoes on the Far Side of the Moon

For these scientists, this experiment will help to find out: is it possible to grow vegetables and fruits at space stations, without sending them further from the Earth.

The lunar probe Chang'e-4, which was launched from the Xichang Cosmodrome in China, is currently working not only on studying the back side of the satellite, but also studying the characteristics of the lunar soil for planting potatoes. The main objective of the experiment is to find out, using the example of potatoes, whether it is possible to grow vegetables and fruits suitable for food.

On board the probe are going to conduct 10 such scientific experiments. When growing, scientists on board will examine the indicators of the soil where potatoes will grow, and also do everything to ensure that the experiment is successful.

The first landings of culture will be held near the crater Aitken - the largest crater on the moon.
