Russia is considering the adoption of regulatory measures for the import of plant protection products (pesticides) into the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union (EurAsEC). At a meeting last week in the analytical center of Russia, it was noted that in the period from January to October last year, the import of pesticide products increased by almost 21% compared with 2015 and continues to grow.
Customs duties on pesticides are currently set at the highest level permitted under the rules of the World Trade Organization. Representatives of the analytical center said that it was necessary to develop a document that would reflect the requirement to limit the import of pesticides in the country. They continue to say that the document should help protect the interests of domestic producers of plant protection products, preventing the importation of counterfeit products.
At a minimum, we can expect an increase in cost, tightening of the rules and procedures that imported pesticides must undergo before being registered for use in EurAsEC.
